CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA Position at University of Maryland SAFE Center for Human

Description:
The University of Maryland Support, Advocacy, Freedom, and Empowerment (SAFE) Center for Human Trafficking Survivors is the first university-based center that combines comprehensive direct service, research, and advocacy to address the issue of human trafficking. Through in-house services and collaborative partnerships, the SAFE Center provides direct social, legal, primary medical, mental health, and economic empowerment services to survivors of sex and labor trafficking. We are recruiting a CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA to implement the second year of a two-year project to build the SAFE Center’s capacity to provide sustainable economic empowerment opportunities for trafficking survivors, and to develop the SAFE Center’s capacity to recruit, organize, deploy, and retain volunteers.

Responsibilities:
• Create, assess, and revise as necessary client protocols, manuals, and evaluation forms for the economic empowerment program.
• Organize in-house economic empowerment workshops related to financial literacy, adult education, English for Speakers of Other Languages, and job readiness.
• Develop Memoranda of Understanding with economic empowerment partners, including vocational training providers, businesses, educational facilities, and others.
• Identify and help apply for funding for the economic empowerment program.
• Develop and implement evaluation tools for the economic empowerment program.
• Develop volunteer and intern protocols, onboarding procedures, and recognition programs.
• Build a program for volunteer interpreters and translators; develop the SAFE Center’s capacity to recruit volunteers for projects involving fundraising, mentoring, tutoring, crisis intervention, and office management.
Qualifications:
• A Bachelor’s degree is required.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strategic thinking, creativity and problem-solving abilities.
• Hard working and well-organized with strong attention to detail. • Takes initiative and proposes ideas.
• Able to receive and implement feedback.
• Enjoys working with people; comfortable initiating phone calls and meetings.
• Experience managing projects, organizing people, and maintaining professional relationships.
• Culturally competent with the proven ability to work well with diverse communities.
• Experience in workforce development and/or organizing volunteers is preferred but not required.
• Experience with University of Maryland College Park departments, programs, and student organizations is preferred but not required.
