Description:
Want to be a peer mentor during the summer session of PSYC100 (Introduction to Psychology)? Academic Peer Mentors (AMPs) will work with students by leading group activities and review sessions. They will also help explain concepts to struggling students, answer students' questions about the material, and hold office hours. The summer PSYC100 course is an online class that runs from July 9 to August 17. It would be ideal if you are on campus during all or most of that time, so that you can meet in person with students and fellow peer mentors. The position will require 6 to 12 hours of work per week. It is a great position to put on a resume, and you will earn 1-4 course credits for your work as a peer mentor by signing up for TLTC 333 and/or TLTC 399. Note: you do NOT have to pay the tuition fees normally associated with summer courses when you sign up for these credits. See this link for more information about the AMP program: tltc.umd.edu/amp
Responsibilities:
-Answer students' questions
-Help struggling students
-Hold office hours for 1 hour per week
-Lead exam review sessions
-Help grade some assignments
-Attend weekly meetings with instructor and other peer mentors
Qualifications:
-Have successfully completed PSYC100 or equivalent
-Available from July 9 to August 17
-Willing to work 6 to 12 hours per week
