Generation Hope is a nonprofit organization with a mission to ensure all student parents have the opportunities to succeed and experience economic mobility by engaging education and policy partners to drive systemic change and providing direct support to teen parents in college as well as their children through holistic, two-generation programming. To date we have provided over $1 million in tuition assistance, supported over 330 teen parents in college, celebrated more than 170 degrees earned through our program, and built relationships with 20+ two and four-year institutions around the DC Metro region as well as other institutions across the country. Position:
The Mental Health Intern is responsible for supporting the development, coordination and implementation of programs and activities of the Mental Health program of Generation Hope. The Mental Health Intern works under the supervision of the Mental Health Manager. During the internship, the Mental Health Intern will have the opportunity to design and implement a project of their choosing, which could range from creating new mental health resources for Scholars to designing elements of programs, etc.
Candidates are expected to participate in this internship at least 20 hours per week. Candidates who can volunteer additional time are preferable. You will receive an incentive of $1,000 for your participation in the internship program. This incentive is intended to support the costs you may incur during your internship at Generation Hope, such as childcare. Internships begin on October 2nd and run through December 15th, with some flexibility on starting and ending dates. The internship will be largely remote with some in-person meetings and events.
Responsibilities:
Engage in outreach initiatives, connecting Generation Hope’s Mental Health program with other mental health resources in the DC metro area
• Research and network with mental health community resources • Create media content materials for wellness newsletter, etc.
• Send out email blasts and mass text messages about mental health programming to Generation Hope Scholars
• Assist Mental Health Manager in facilitating mental health focused workshops • Attend all weekly staff meetings and evening meetings, when appropriate • Assist Mental Health Manager in organizing current mental health information • Assist Mental Health Manager in creating psychoeducation presentations and therapy workbooks/packets
Qualifications
• High School Diploma required. Preference will be given to candidates with some college experience, particularly those studying Psychology, Sociology, Family Studies , Social Work or a related field.
• Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs and Canva
• Passion for mental wellness
• Strong verbal communication skills
• Strong organizational skills
• Most importantly, the ideal candidate needs to be self-directed and able to carry through projects with little oversight and in a tele-work environment.
