Resident Assistant Positions with the Summer Research Initiative. Application deadline is Friday 5/12!

Position Title: Resident Assistant  
Category: Summer Staff (Contractual)
Employment Period: Saturday, 6/3/2023 to Saturday, 7/29/2023

The College of Behavioral and Social Sciences and Arts and Humanities are currently seeking three undergraduate or graduate students to serve as resident assistants for their jointly offered Summer Research Initiative/Summer Research Opportunity Program (SRI/SROP). Employment begins on Saturday, June 3, 2023 and will end on Saturday, July 29, 2023. The three resident assistants will live in Fraternity and Sorority housing on campus, with approximately 20 students, and assume primary responsibility for managing the daily needs of the students and shaping an environment that supports academic and personal development.


Responsibilities:

• Encourage and model positive behavior through adherence to University policies, rules and regulations including those included in the campus Code of Student Conduct, housing agreements, and the Community Living Handbook.
• Maintain a positive living environment that encourages student interaction and academic success.
• Maintain approachability and availability by spending time in the unit interacting regularly with the residents.
• Be aware of campus resources and serve as a referral agent to appropriate university and community services related to these needs.
• Assist residents in mediating conflicts if they arise including but not limited to scheduling resident meetings as needed to discuss and establish an environment of mutual respect conducive to academic pursuits (possible issues that may arise could include establishing quiet hours, use and maintenance of common areas, etc.).
• Provide support and assistance to program participants, including but not limited to: issuing and tracking keys and access cards, passing on maintenance and repair requests to the House Director (HD), handling lockouts, and check-in/check-out inspections.
• Be a liaison and point of contact to program coordinators and directors. • Recognize and respond promptly to individual crises and discipline matters through appropriate referral channels and adjudication processes including taking any escalated issues directly to the appropriate program director in a timely and efficient manner.
• Abstain from use of alcohol, illegal drugs, and/or any medications that may impair response while on duty.

Time Commitment/Duty: Each RA is assigned to duty coverage approximately 2-3 days a week between the hours of 5:00 pm and 8:00 am (Monday through Sunday) Actual duty times each week will vary depending on the number of RAs available.

Minimum Qualifications: Current University of Maryland student, age 21+ Compensation: Room and board, weeknight catered dinner meals, and a stipend of $900.00.
