Disabilities Aide Intern

Description:
Hours: 4-20 hours weekly.
Site hours: 8:30am-3:00pm Monday through Friday
September 16-December 13, 2013. Flexibility in scheduling.
Responsibilities:
Assist staff in working with children with special needs in the classrooms.
Work individually and in small groups with children that receive a number of services via their IEP (Individual Education Plans) , IFSP (Individual Family Service Plan), or services from outside agencies (Child and Family Support Center, The Maryland Therapy Network)
Work one-on-one with the Special Ed Consultants in providing:
• Reading assistance
• Behavior assistance (disruptive)
• Special Education
• Speech and Language Therapy
Responsibilities:
Intern will gain confidence in working with children with special needs. Will put to use classroom knowledge. Will provide assistance to trained staff and aids. Will gain a working knowledge of the Head Start program and experience working with children inside an education-based non-profit.
The Head Start staff will be able to rely on the Intern for support in implementing therapies, distributing information, and other program assistance as needed.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 18 years old
Experience and love of working with children
Maintains confidentiality at all times
Is organized
People person: communicates well verbally
Able to take instruction
Positive attitude
Self-motivated
Completes tasks on time
Can commit to a minimum of one 4-hour shift weekly
Minimal use of personal electronic devices during work hours
Junior or Senior Status
