Committee each Fall that encourages our faculty, staff, and students to focus on social justice by dedicating a week to highlighting topics related to social justice, equity, inclusion, and belonging inside and outside of our courses. This year, the Social Justice Teach-In keynote address will be delivered by Mrs. Dawn Collins, mother of Lt. Richard Collins, III.
Mrs. Dawn Collins became a leader for hate crime reform after her son, Lt. Richard Collins III, was murdered by a white supremacist on UMD's campus in 2017.
As we approach the 10 year anniversary of the murder of Lt. Richard Collins III, Mrs. Collins will speak on turning pain into social change, standing up for what is right in challenging times, and the power of education in creating a more just society.
