Join us to hear from Hafis Adegun '20, an AAAS alum! He will share his experiences as a UMD undergraduate, his pathway to medical school, how he selected his program, and share his insights on what this experience has taught him. Hosted by the Department of African American and Africana Studies. Open to all current UMD students.

During his time at the University of Maryland, he participated in numerous programs and initiatives that exposed him to work in underserved communities. As a rising sophomore, he was an MCH-LEARN intern at Kennedy Krieger Institute and was placed at the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD). During his internship, he conducted a research evaluation of the public health team at the AUCD, and a program aimed at increasing healthy eating habits among people with disabilities. He was also awarded a Summer Scholar Research Grant from the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences to conduct research for his senior thesis on the relationship between obesity-related behaviors, race-related stress, and immigrant status. Outside of the classroom, Mr. Adegun was able to spend three years mentoring and tutoring incarcerated men at the Howard County Detention Center.
