Clinical PSYC Postbacc with Drs. Blanchard & Shackman

The Department of Psychology at the University of Maryland, College Park is currently
recruiting a full-time research assistant (Faculty Specialist) position to start May 2024 (start date is flexible).
 

Description:
This position is part of a NIMH-funded program focused on understanding paranoid ideation in psychotic disorders (led by Dr. Jack Blanchard and Dr. Alex Shackman). This research incorporates clinical interviews, behavioral assessments, ecological momentary assessment, sleep actigraphy and structural and functional brain imaging (fMRI). The ideal candidate will have a BA/BS or Master’s degree in Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or Counseling. Prior clinical psychology or psychiatry-related research experience is required. Clinical assessment experience with seriously mentally ill adults including use of structured interview measures for assessing diagnoses and symptoms is preferred. This position is renewable annually based on performance and funding -- availability for two years is strongly preferred. Salary is competitive and the position includes full faculty/staff benefits.

Responsibilities will include recruitment of potential research participants, conducting clinical interviews, administering standardized cognitive assessments, assisting participants in the fMRI scanner, data management, managing IRB and NIH-related documentation and reporting requirements, and participating in other research related activities. Because of the fMRI used in this study any applicant is required to pass an MRI-metal safety screen to ensure that they can safely work within an fMRI environment.
