PSYC 303 Course Description:

This 1-credit online course provides an investigation of various career and graduate school opportunities available to psychology majors. We will cover options specific to psychology, but we will also consider how psychology is a good background for related fields of study and work. Students will investigate a wide range of career fields, will learn how to utilize available resources to pursue career goals, and will take steps to advance their professional identity and development.

This course is ideal for sophomores and juniors, as well as seniors who need some help preparing for Graduate School and may have not yet firmly decided on a specific Job Title or Career Path.


What You Will Do and Learn In PSYC 303?

Students will explore perspectives on what it means to be a Psychology Major.

Students will examine strategies for establishing academic and social connections with their Psychology Degree and Community that will be benefit to a future career path.

Students will gain an increased awareness of the three general ways Psychology Majors utilize their degree: Research, Practice, and Teaching.

Students will plan for a “First Act” Opportunity they hope to pursue after earning their Bachelor’s Degree in PSYCHOLOGY.

Students will develop a solid understanding of the Graduate School Application and Admission Process.

Students will practice drafting professional correspondence inclusive of the Personal Statement, Letter of Recommendation Request, and Foot In The Door Outreach To Potential Career Mentors.

Students will assess their Psychological Literacy and how to communicate and apply this to their future career trajectory.

Students will familiarize themselves with the specializations of psychology and the many cousins within the helping professions landscape.
