RA Positions with The Qualitative Dissertation Research Team!

Research Assistant Positions
Qualitative Dissertation Research Team

This qualitative dissertation will examine the experiences and spiritual/mental health consequences of spiritual abuse among East Asian Americans. Interviews with 12-15 individuals will be conducted and analyzed using Consensual Qualitative Research, an established, structured qualitative method. Research team members would help transcribe interviews over Summer 2023 (flexible, remote work). Then beginning August 2023, the research team would meet virtually once a week for 2 hours to analyze the data. This is a very collaborative process in which everyone's perspective is highly valued. This process is expected to continue through the end of August 2024. All research team members would receive authorship on any manuscripts resulting from the study. This is a wonderful opportunity for anyone interested in mental health, religion/spirituality, trauma, qualitative research, and/or pursuing graduate studies in psychology.

Responsibilities:
-Help transcribe interviews during June and July 2023. This would be remote work and RAs could do this in their own time.
-Attend and actively participate in 2 hour weekly meetings between August 2023 - August 2024. These meetings would focus on identifying themes from the interview data, discussing ideas with team members, and drawing conclusions from the data.
-Prepare for weekly meetings by completing any data preparation or analysis tasks (estimated 1 hour or less a week).

Qualifications:
-Must be working toward a bachelor's degree in psychology or related fields
-Strong critical thinking and verbal skills
-Excellent communication skills
-Must have a collaborative and team-oriented attitude
-Preferably interested in gaining qualitative research skills
-Must be highly engaged and willing to participate in group discussions
