The Special Education and Rehabilitation Counselor Education programs at Michigan State University and Penn State University are seeking PhD applicants for
Project FUTURE (Focus on the Underserved in Transition Using Rehabilitation and Education), a fully funded doctoral training program beginning in Fall 2023.
FLYERProject FUTURE will prepare interdisciplinary doctoral Scholars to be leaders in transition research and
pre-service preparation to improve post-school outcomes for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities from underserved communities. Project FUTURE Scholars will be provided with various learning opportunities, including cross-discipline and cross-university mentoring, professional seminars, writing groups, journal clubs, communities of practice, and research, teaching, and service apprenticeships, as well as 4 years of guaranteed funding (e.g., tuition, stipend, health insurance, research support, and conference travel).
Professionals from many different disciplines are involved with transition and employment services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including social work and psychology, so those with non-special education and rehabilitation counseling backgrounds are welcome to apply. Ideal candidates will have career goals that fit with Project FUTURE, commitment to inclusion diversity, belonging, equity, and accessibility and to supporting transition-age students with intellectual or developmental disabilities from underserved communities, and previous academic or professional experience with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
