Become a Peer Counselor at the Help Center Hotline  

Help Center is UMD's student-run peer crisis and counseling intervention hotline. They offer both hotline and drop-in services to our students and to the greater College Park area. As a counselor, you will be trained to help people dealing with roommate issues, relationship dilemmas, mental health, thoughts of suicide, and other life issues.

Training begins only once a semester.

You MUST be available for the following mandatory, in-person training dates:

Group Dynamics: 

Thursday, February 27th, 2025 @ 7:00pm to 8:30pm
Training Weekend Day 1: Saturday, March 1st, 2025 @ 10:00am to 3:00pm
Training Weekend Day 2: Sunday, March 2nd, 2025 @ 11:00am to 3:30pm

Responsibilities: 

Train to be a Peer Counselor

Attend 4 hour shifts once a week

Qualifications: 

UMD Freshman or Sophomore

Have an interest in mental health
