Background on the Center for Early Childhood Education and Intervention

The Center for Early Childhood Education and Intervention (CECEI), in the College of Education at the
University of Maryland, is a joint initiative between the Department of Counseling, Higher Education and Special Education and the Department of Human Development and Quantitative Methodology. The
mission of the CECEI is to conduct high quality research on early childhood education and early
intervention programs in order to inform State and Federal policy, to translate research into scalable
education programs and best practices, to build capacity in schools and communities, and to promote
family engagement in their children’s education.

Research Associate Position:

The Center for Early Childhood Education and Intervention (CECEI) is accepting applications for a
Research Associate (RA) who has strong quantitative expertise and interest in applied developmental
research in the early childhood arena. The initial appointment will be from August 1-December 31, 2021, with the possibility of a renewal depending on available funding. The position is focused on evaluation of an early childhood mental health consultation project.

Under the supervision of Drs. Christy Tirrell-Corbin and Brenda Jones Harden, the RA’s responsibilities
will include data collection, data management, data analysis, and preparation of the final report. The
successful candidate will also have a demonstrated ability to work independently and contribute to a
collaborative team environment.

Qualifications:

Applicants should have advanced to candidacy in Psychology, Education, Human Development, or a
closely related discipline by the time of appointment. In addition, successful applicants will have
significant expertise in quantitative methods, with experience both in large-scale data sets and
small-scale original studies. A beginning track record of publication, excellent academic writing skills, and experience with management and analysis of data derived from evaluation research are preferred.
