The Psychology Office of Undergraduate Studies is recruiting peer mentors for the Spring 2021 Semester!
The program aims to support and engage first-year UMD psychology students through mentorship. This is an exciting opportunity to build leadership skills, network with fellow psych students, and facilitate the growth and success of new students. PSYC majors who are energetic, passionate and enthusiastic about their experiences at the University of Maryland are encouraged to apply.
*Please note: this is a volunteer position
Qualifications:
-PSYC major for 2+ semesters by end of Fall 2020
-2.7 Cumulative GPA
-At least one quality Psychology experience (i.e. research, internships, student organizations, TAing, etc.)
-Good judicial/academic standing
Responsibilities:
-Mentor 1-2 first year psychology students
-Mentors must complete a 3 week online training that will be held the weeks of Jan. 11th, Jan 18th, and Jan 25th (approximately 2 hours/week)
-Mentors will attend monthly meetings with the Peer Mentor Coordinator
-Mentors must contact mentee(s) at least every other week and submit a short Google Form assessing their meetings
-Mentors must attend monthly Peer Mentor social events with their mentees. Mentors will also have the opportunity to plan one social event.
-Time commitment of up to 6.5 hours/month
