https://roeschlab.wixsite.com/roeschlab

The Roesch Lab at the University of Maryland College Park is hiring a full-time Research Assistant (official payroll title: Faculty Specialist) to work on projects related to behavior and single neuron recordings in awake behaving rodents (mostly rats) performing a variety tasks that examine various functions, including reward-guided decision-making, response inhibition, impulsivity, attention, and social cognition. Responsibilities include device construction, surgery, behavior, histology, writing and data analysis, as well as other types of lab support (e.g., ordering, general lab maintenance, record keeping).

The research assistant will train and work with postdocs and graduate students using behavioral electrophysiology, optogenetics, and pharmacology to study how brain signals give rise to behavioral control. Particularly independent candidates will be able to perform their own research studies, likely in conjunction with a more senior person in the lab.

Qualifications/Requirements:
Applicants should have an undergraduate degree in neuroscience, biology, psychology, or another relevant degree. Preference will be given to applicants with previous experience in rodent neuroscience, however all skill sets will be considered. The successful applicant will be trained on relevant techniques as necessary. This is a great position for people considering graduate school.

We will work with the RA to develop career interests and a competitive application for graduate programs (or other programs as appropriate). Graduate school plans aren’t a requirement for the position, but our interest in / ability to help prepare for graduate studies is potentially an added benefit of the position. The position is available in January 2021 (applications will be considered in December). The appointment is on 12 month basis. This is a 1 year, full-time with the possibility of renewal based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding to support the position. This appointment includes a full benefit package.

How To Apply:
If interested in applying or have any questions, please contact Matt Roesch (mroesch@umd.edu).
