**This position is funded by the state of Maryland’s Developmental Disability Administration (DDA) through the Self-‐Directed Waiver Program.**
This is a position that provides direct care and support services to an adult client with Mental Illness, Cognitive Disabilities, and Developmental Delays.
Title: Personal Support Counselor Location: Rockville, MD
Hours: Part Time Salary: $16‐20 an hour
JOB DESCRIPTION:
-Helps in planning day trips and driving long distances (Hershey, Kings Dominion, Six Flags, Ocean City, Utz Factory, Sandy Point Beach, Philadelphia, New Jersey)
-Helps in planning volunteer events within the community (Food Drive, Toys for Tots, Clothes Drive, Soup Kitchen)
-Assists in planning activities within the community (pool parties, tie dying shirts, bowling, going to the movies, dining out, ice skating, going to DC museums)
-Helps individual in achieving personal support goals as stated in their annual person centered plan
-Provides support and strategies related to problem solving and stress management
-Provides instructions in particular areas (cooking, menu planning, exercising, scheduling)
-Submits daily notes by email/log book
-Attends all group staff meetings, must have good communication skills
Minimum Qualifications:
-Some college courses preferred, but not required in (Health and Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, Criminology, Special Education, and Counseling)
-Some experience, but not required, working with an individual with developmental disabilities
-Must be a fun and energetic person
-Must have a vehicle, valid US Driver’s License, and a good driving record
-Must be CPR and First Aid Certified
-Must be able to successfully complete a criminal background check.
