Title: Personal Support Counselor
Location: Rockville, MD
Hours: Part Time Salary: $16-20 an hour
This position is funded by the state of Maryland’s Developmental Disability Administration (DDA) through the Self-Directed Waiver Program.
This is a position that provides direct care and support services to an adult client with Mental Illness, Cognitive Disabilities, and Developmental Delays.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
• Plan day trips and drive long distances (Hershey, King’s Dominion, Six Flags, Ocean City, Utz Factory, Sandy Point Beach, Philadelphia, skiing)
• Plan events within the community (Food drives, Toys for Tots, ice skating, pool parties, dining out, tie dying shirts, bowling, going to the movies)
• Support goals of living successfully as an independent • Provide instruction and monitor particular areas (budgeting, scheduling, cooking, shopping, exercising, planning activities)
• Provide support and strategies related to problem solving and stress management
Minimum Qualifications:
• College degree preferred, or college coursework in Human Services (Psychology, Social Work, Special Education, Counseling, Criminology)
• Experience with individuals with developmental disabilities
• Must be a fun and energetic person • Must have a vehicle, valid U.S. driver's license, and a good driving record
• Ability to successfully complete a drug, criminal background, and professional reference check
*Must have CPR and First Aid Certification
