Greta is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology under the mentorship of
Dr. Karen O’Brien. Greta holds a B.A. degree in Psychology from Rutgers University and M.A. degree in Psychology in Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. She has previously worked at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where she conducted a number of NIH-funded research projects. Specifically, she worked on testing the efficacy of Meaning-Centered Group Therapy adapted for breast cancer survivors and Meaning-Centered Grief Therapy for bereaved parents who lost a child to cancer. In addition, she worked on designing a bereavement risk screener for individuals who have family members with advanced cancer, and a study that assessed clinicians' attitudes on diagnosing prolonged grief disorder.At UMD, she is currently conducting her thesis that aims to identify predictors of grief counseling skills among university counseling center therapists. She is also working on a meta-analysis that assesses the efficacy of existing interventions to educate doctors and medical students regarding end-of-life communication.
Greta's broad research interests include bereavement, grief counseling, end-of-life communication and training, young adults who experience loss, and spirituality and mental health.
