Minimum age requirement: 21 years old
JLG-RICA is a community-based public treatment, education, and residential facility for emotionally disturbed children and adolescents ages 10-18. JGL-RICA is an interagency program operated by the Maryland Department of Health and the Montgomery County Public Schools.
Tutor: Are you skilled in a specific subject area? Tutors provide academic/training instruction to middle or high school students in either a school or residential setting. ❖ Interest in tutoring an emotionally disturbed child or adolescent. ❖ Respect for confidentiality. ❖ Patience and understanding. ❖ Commitment to on-going assignment (semester, school year or longer). ❖ Ability to communicate knowledge. **We really need MATH tutors! ***
Mentor: Do you really want to get to know a student? Mentors establish a one-on-one relationship with a student to provide support, guidance, and assistance to a student that really needs a positive role model. ❖ Encourages ❖ Builds on the positive ❖ Teaches ❖ Advocates ❖ Reinforces, compliments and models positive behavior ❖ To meet with student at pre-arranged dates and times to provide adult companionship and positive role modeling.
Pet Volunteer: Do you have a dog? If so, we’d love to have you as pet volunteer! You will get to spend one-on-one time with the student and your pet to help the student stay on task, learn new directions and connect with others by watching the animal. ❖ Encourages ❖ Builds on the positive ❖ Teaches ❖ Reinforces, compliments and models positive behavior
