The Psychology Department is recruiting mentors for its new TIPS Program. TIPS is designed to help
current new transfer PSYC Terps learn......
-How to adjust effectively to the increased pace, size, and rigor of UMD psychology courses
-How to understand the differences in study and teaching approaches between the two year community college and UMD
-How to establish one on one connections with instructors and psychology advising staff in the more group oriented environment of UMD
-How to develop successful study strategies for specific psychology major requirements
-How to seek out and secure experiential learning opportunities such as research and internships
Mentor Responsibilities:
-Attend and participate in monthly "lunch and learn" events (one hour per month)
-Lead group mentee activities/discussions during "lunch and learn" events
-Communicate at least two status checks per month with mentee as to academic challenges and transitional issues they may be experiencing
-Help mentees develop a proactive approach to their academic and social experience within the department of psychology community
-Encourage, invite, and co-attend psychology department events
Mentor Eligibility:
-Psychology Major
-Transferred from a Maryland Community College
-At least one semester completed at UMD
-Minimum 2.7 GPA
