UMD Toggle Talk Project
The Toggle Talk Project at UMD is currently recruiting undergraduate and graduate students to administer tests to kindergarten and first grade children in the Baltimore City Public Schools.
Researchers at UMD are partnering with the Baltimore City Public Schools to study the efficacy of Toggle Talk, a language arts curriculum supplement. Toggle Talk provides young children with vocabulary and language structure awareness to become comfortable in switching between their home/informal language and classroom/formal language. Toggle Talk has been shown to improve standardized reading scores in pilot studies.
Assessments:
In order to evaluate the efficacy of the ToggleTalk curriculum, a series of assessments will be administered during the Spring 2018 semester (and beyond). Assessors

We are currently recruiting undergraduate and graduate students at UMD to administer assessments on reading, dialect shifting, and language skills. Assessments will be administered to kindergarten and first grade students in 7 Baltimore City Schools in April and May.
Qualifications:
Some experience with elementary school children or high interest in working with them. • Availability during school hours (8:00am-3:00pm) at least 1-2 days a week. • Interest in learning how to administer and score language and reading assessments.
Compensation:
Hourly wages: $15/hour • Transportation will be provided from UMD to project school-sites.
