Cognition and Development Lab

Description:
The Cognition and Development Lab, co-directed by Dr. Lucas Butler, is seeking a highly motivated cogdevlab.umd.edu
Research Assistant to aid in running studies at the Port Discovery Museum in Baltimore. The Lab focuses on children’s early social cognitive development, specifically how children’s understanding of other people affects how and what they learn, and the inferences they make from evidence. This research assistant will start in the lab to learn the lab’s general procedures as well as the protocol for this current study. After wards, the individual will be responsible for visiting Port Discovery on weekends to recruit families in the museum to participate in our studies. Responsibilities also include assisting with participant recruitment and data collection. This opportunity is ideal for students interested in gaining valuable research experience for graduate school. PSYC and EDHD course credit available. Responsibilities:
10 hours per week during school year, mostly done on the weekends
Traveling to the Port Discovery Museum in Baltimore two Saturdays per month
Assisting with in-lab duties one day per week
Attending bi-weekly lab meetings
Running behavioral study with children

Qualifications:
Reliable transportation to the museum
Minimum 3.2 GPA
1 Semester commitment required (2 semesters and/or summer availability preferred)
Experience working with children
Strong communication skills
Professionalism
Strong organizational skills
Completed PSYC 100 (preferred)
Interest in developmental psychology
