The Developmental and Research Laboratory on Eating and Weight Behaviors under the direction of Dr. Marian Tanofsky-Kraff in the Department of Medical and Clinical Psychology at the Uniformed Services University (USU) is seeking a very highly motivated undergraduate or master's student to aid in conducting research. The volunteer would serve as an aid to research coordinators on a NIH-funded therapy trial aimed at preventing eating disorders and reducing excessive weight gain in adolescent military dependents. Primary responsibilities include recruitment of study participants and data collection and entry. Time commitment is part time and hours are flexible. Access to a car for recruitment events in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area, and willingness to work on some weekday mornings or Saturdays are preferred. The Uniformed Services University is located in Bethesda, MD and is metro accessible. This experience is ideal for individuals planning to pursue graduate work in clinical psychology or medicine.
Opportunities for this position include:
- research experience working on a federally funded R01 grant
- experience interacting with 12-17 year old participants and/or their caregivers at recruitment events, and if scheduling allows, at baseline visits
- exposure to a wide range of physical and mental health assessments including body composition, eating behavior, and psycho-social adjustment
- potential for recommendation letters depending on overall performance and length of volunteer service
