Temp Part-time Research Assistants
Insurance Institute for Highway Safety
A small, nonprofit, Washington, DC-based research organization seeks two temporary, part-time research assistants for a data collection effort occurring during July and August 2015. The study goal is to understand vehicle owners’ use of different safety technologies. The primary task will be to record data about the settings of safety systems of vehicles when owners bring them in for service at two Honda automobile dealerships in the DC metro area (one in Germantown, MD and one in Alexandria, VA).
The research assistants will be stationed in the service department waiting room or in the actual service lanes and will use a notebook computer to record observations. Therefore, candidates must be able to stand for long periods of time and operate a notebook computer. The ideal candidates are undergraduates or first-year graduate students who have demonstrated that they work well independently. The research assistants also must have excellent interpersonal skills as they will need to interact with service personnel, other dealership employees, and, potentially, vehicle owners.
The position provides an excellent opportunity for gaining hands-on research experience, and there is the potential to transition to a permanent part-time or full-time research assistant position with an attractive benefits package.
Preference will be given to candidates who have experience collecting field data and can demonstrate the ability to work independently.
The position pays $18-$20 an hour based on experience. Housing is not provided. Resumes will be accepted until the positions are filled. Candidates should send their resumes via email to research@iihs.org. An in-person interview is required. No phone calls, please.
