Are you considering graduate school? Not sure what programs may be a fit for you? Spend 50 minutes in the Lab to find out what factors are important when choosing a graduate program and get started on your research. Each student will also receive a graduate school application timeline to keep you on track.
*Note: This Lab is for students in the early graduate school exploration process (sophomores or juniors, most likely). Note: bring your laptop or tablet to access website resources we will be using. Several computers are also available on a first come first serve basis. This event is part of the BSOS Career Lab for students in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences. Ocean Mammal Institute: Employer Networking Sessions
Thursday, April 09, 2015 • 4:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.
Location: University Career Center & The President’s Promise (3rd Floor Hornbake Library, South Wing)
The Ocean Mammal Institute takes 30-40 interns every year to spend 3 weeks in the hot Maui sun learning how to conduct field research on the humpback whale. No experience is necessary! Interns come from ALL majors and ALL college age ranges.
Our objectives are to change people's awareness, help them feel their connection to the natural world, and to protect ocean mammals. We believe efforts to protect a specific species are an effective way to address the abstract issues of biodiversity and ecosystem protection. Consequently our programs have three goals:
1. To study the impact of human marine activities including noise pollution on whales and dolphins.
2. Apply the results of our research to protecting marine mammals and their environment.
3. Educate people about important conservation issues and empower them to act responsibly.
Come to this session to learn how you can spend your winter break in Hawaii!

Join the University Career Center & The President's Promise on a Career Shuttle to the Prince George’s County Police Department to learn about the wide variety of careers available in the field of law enforcement!
The trip will include a welcome from the Inspector General (an alumnus of UMD/ARHU), an overview of the law enforcement field and tours of facilities such as the crime scene investigation room, firearms library, DNA lab and more. You can learn more about careers with Prince George’s County Police Department here.
