The Center for Addictions, Personality, and Emotion Research (CAPER) within the UMD Psychology Department is seeking an undergraduate research assistant for a study on temporal discounting (TD). Temporal Discounting is the tendency of delayed rewards to be of less value than rewards available immediately. TD occurs in a wide variety of contexts including the daily choices or decisions one makes between immediate and delayed rewards. It is a measure of impulsivity that can provide information on problematic behaviors such as substance abuse, pathological gambling, obesity, HIV risk behaviors, and violence. Current studies explore the theory that concrete thinking results in a preference for immediate (vs. delayed) outcomes in a variety of contexts as well as whether these thought processes affect interpersonal decisions.
Responsibilities:
-Meeting and monitoring research participants
-Preparing study materials
-Data Entry
-Potential for further responsibility
-Flexible hours but preference will be given to students who can commit at least six hours per week
Qualifications:
-Prerequisites: PSYC 100 or relevant experience coursework in social science, health, or economic related fields
-3.0 or higher GPA
-Punctuality, enthusiasm, professionalism, and interpersonal skills
-Previous experience in psychology research preferred but not necessary
