Office of the Dean
The University of Maryland’s Graduate School is excited to recruit an outstanding undergraduate student to support administrative operations in the Office of the Dean on an hourly basis. Reporting to the Assistant to the Dean, and working closely with other staff and leadership, you will develop critical professional, technical, and communication skills while supporting a wide range of programs, initiatives, and functional areas.
Performance outcomes: At the end of the semester, you will have demonstrated:
Working knowledge of how the Graduate School, and the university more broadly, support the success and wellbeing of over 10,000 graduate students.
The ability to collect, analyze, and report quantitative and qualitative data to assess programs, understand student needs, provide actionable recommendations, and support policy decisions.
The technical fluency to use a wide range of software platforms at a sophisticated level (e.g., Google Forms, Sheets, Dos, Qualtrics, Adobe Sign, Canvas, Asana) to support various workflows and processes (e.g., Record of Examining Committee, departmental communications).
Familiarity with program, meeting, and event support, including scheduling, organizing, logistics, record keeping, and reporting (e.g., New Student Orientation, Resource Fair, Financial Resource Hub, administrative meetings).
The ability to manage multiple projects in a professional environment that requires diligence and confidentiality.
Time commitment: During the Fall 2021 semester, the position requires an average of 10-15 hours per week. Although most of those hours will be during regular business hours (8:30am -4:30pm) some evening and weekend hours may be required on occasion. The majority of duties will be performed in person.
We need someone who:
Has a mature and professional demeanor
Is eager to learn new technical skills
Has excellent written and verbal communication skills
Can demonstrate strong organizational skills with multiple projects and deadlines
Is capable of working independently and maintaining confidentiality with student records and privileged communication
It would be ideal if you also:
Have advanced knowledge of Google Drive, Google Calendar, and the other software listed above
Have experience supporting programming, events, and large-scale meetings
