Those who are offered the position can choose to volunteer their time or can earn course credit by enrolling in Psyc 478 for 2 or 3 credits.

Students that are selected and enroll in the PSYC 478 course will work collaboratively with the instructor and the teaching team. UGTA’s will also have the option (if interested) to deliver a mini lecture during the semester. UGTA’s benefit from exposure and experience to the teaching process, as well as experience in working collaboratively with a teaching team.

Eligibility for Applying:
• You must have taken PSYC221 at UMD and earned a grade of "A-", "A", or "A+".

Priority will be given to students who have earned a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA.

TA Responsibilities (9 hours per week for 3 credits; 6 hours per week for 2 credits; at least 6 hours for volunteers):

-Grading

-Leading Exam Review Sessions
-Regularly meeting with the teaching team
-Administrative tasks (including Canvas-related tasks)
-Contributing to the enhancement and development of assignments and exams

Time commitment & benefits:

-Managing some aspects of the course ELMS page and administration (grades, emails, etc.)
-Meeting with individual students to discuss course, content and writing feedback.

Minimum requirements to be considered:
-Have graduated or will graduate in Spring or Summer 2025 with a bachelor's degree in Psychology from UMD.
-Have earned at least an "A-" in PSYC 100 (or equivalent).
-Are available for class meetings on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 4:30 pm-5:45 pm. 
-Can offer evidence of high-level communication skills, particularly in writing, proofreading, and speaking.
-Can offer evidence of an organized, reliable work ethic and the ability to work independently as well as with teams of peers.

Description: 
Are you passionate about psychology and wellbeing? Do you want to help others explore the science behind living a fulfilling life? We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated undergraduate teaching assistants for PSYC 234: Living the Good Life: The Psychology of Happiness during Summer Session I, 2025 (June 2, 2025 - July 11, 2025).

As a UGTA, you will have the opportunity to:
-Lead discussion sections (10-15 students) on Thursdays from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
-Assist with grading assignments and projects
-Gain teaching experience and deepen your understanding of psychological concepts related to happiness and well-being

Requirements:
-Must have completed PSYC 234 with a grade of B+ or better
