With funding from the American Psychological Association, the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of Psychology will host 6 undergraduate students for paid summer research assistantships. The program, Scholarship in Child and Adolescent Health and Injury Prevention (SCAHIP), will offer research training, graduate school and career development, and opportunities to socialize with other students.
Qualifications:
-Undergraduate students entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year in Fall 2017 •
-Major in psychology, public health, human development, or related field
-Interest in attending graduate school
-Experience working with children/adolescents is desirable, but not required
-Students from underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply
Learning and Training Objectives:
-Participate in rigorous mentored research on child health and injury prevention
-Gain skills in scientific writing and presenting
-Receive mentorship on graduate school preparation and career options
-Network with other students through UAB’s summer workshop series and Student Expo sponsored by UAB’s Office for Undergraduate Research
-Submit your research to a national scientific conference

Employment Details:
A stipend of $3,840 will be provided for the 8-week, full-time program located in Birmingham, Alabama from June 12 - August 4, 2017. Some laboratories will supplement funding to start training earlier or continue training later than those dates.
