fulfills a PSYC Theme 3 and a PSYC 400 Level Non-Lab Requirement
This course will be a deep dive into Occupational Health Psychology (OHP), or the study of how workplaces contribute to employee stress, health, and wellbeing. Some of the topics include mental and physical health outcomes (e.g., burnout, illness), nonstandard work schedules (e.g., overnight and shift workers), toxic workplaces (e.g., bullying, workaholism), and work recovery (i.e., after-work experiences we do to replenish ourselves). Students will develop a rich understanding of how workplaces contribute to the health and wellbeing of employees.
The course will be offered in Fall 2026 on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:30-10:45am in ESJ 1309. Students must be psychology majors to register. Please reach out to Dr. Cassandra Phetmisy (
phetmisy@umd.edu) if you have any questions!
