investigates the development of cognitive abilities, such as memory, in infants and young children. We are especially interested in how changes in these abilities are related to brain development. Multiple tools are used to address this issue including studying children’s overt behavior and their brain structure and function. Currently, the NCDL is running two large NIH-funded studies: one focused on the influence of napping behavior and sleep on memory in preschoolers and one focused on brain development in infants.
