Internship Opportunity with The UMD Together Program

Title: Intern
Program: University of Maryland, TOGETHER Program
Job Status: Part-Time Employment (unpaid, but possible course credit)


Background: The TOGETHER Program/JUNTOS en PAREJA is psychoeducational program developed by two professors at the University of Maryland (UMD). TOGETHER is designed to promote healthy couple relationships and economic stability and mobility for low to moderate income couples. The TOGETHER Program operates under a grant from the Federal government and operates in conformity with Federal grant requirements.

Join the TOGETHER Team as an undergraduate intern and gain valuable experience in your field! There are plenty of opportunities for growth as a TOGETHER intern. Many previous interns continued to be hired as marketing assistants or case managers, and/or learn necessary skills and tools, and receive helpful recommendations, before applying to a masters program. Responsibilities
1. Attend required trainings including Human Subjects (CITI), Introduction to TOGETHER, Marketing and Recruitment, Domestic Violence and Child Maltreatment, Initial Contact and Registration, Intake and Enrollment, Workshop Support, as well as any other trainings deemed necessary by the Intern Supervisor.

2. Attend weekly internship/volunteership meetings with Intern Supervisor and fellow peers to discuss weekly tasks, check in about updates, and discuss questions/concerns.

3. Receive a total of 2 evaluations: a midterm evaluation and a final evaluation.

4. Participant in initial contact and registration with potential participants by email and phone under supervision.

5. Assist case managers as workshop support. Assemble workshop materials for upcoming in person sessions around the DMV area.

6. Observe workshop sessions (required to observe sessions 1 through 6 by the end of the internship contract) and complete fidelity forms of observations.

7. Participate in marketing, advertising, flyering, and recruitment of potential participants. This involves managing social media outlets, flyering on UMD campus and surrounding areas, emailing recruitment contacts about the program, researching potential new recruitment contacts, and attending recruitment events in the surrounding area.

8. Research possible partners, licensed child care providers, recruitment contacts, and referral agencies and update related databases.

9. Shadow at least (2) TOGETHER employees and observe one or more of their tasks to gain an understanding of their position in the program.

10. Track internship/volunteership hours and tasks on a Weekly Activity Report on a weekly basis and upload to Box.com regularly.

Professional Learning Goals
1. Through participation in this internship/volunteership, students will come to understand and adhere to the community intervention research procedures including Human Subjects Protection and various research protocols.

2. Through participation in this internship/volunteership, students will improve their cultural competencies, communication skills, and learn how to work with at-risk couples with diverse cultural, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

3. Through participation in this internship/volunteership, students will increase their knowledge in the following areas:
a. Marketing and Recruitment for a non-profit organization
b. Data Collection for a research-based project
c. Administration of program specifics (e.g., organization, tracking and reporting)
d. Customer Services skills (e.g., communication)

Qualifications
Local to University of Maryland (required).
College undergraduate student in a relevant field such as psychology, sociology, public health, family science, etc. (preferred).
Bilingual applicants (fluent in English and Spanish) preferred.

We are doing rolling admission for those who are Bilingual Spanish speakers. We will be accepting applications for English and Bilingual Spanish speakers for the Summer: 05/01 and Fall: 08/01
