We are eager to recruit Research Assistants from a range of racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. The intern will work on research projects related to a school-based intervention study designed to reduce prejudice, increase intergroup friendships, and enable children to recognize and rectify social inequalities. Research Assistants in our lab learn about the process of research, read the literature in developmental psychology, meet with a research group once a week (with the supervising professor), and collect data from interviews, surveys, and online responses. This opportunity is perfect for recent graduates seeking preparation for graduate school.
Responsibilities:
-30 to 40 hours per week
-Use provided technology to observe, record, and transcribe classroom discussions
-Meet with faculty director, graduate students, lab manager, and undergraduate research assistants regularly
-Collecting, cleaning, analyzing, and discussing collected data.
-Maintenance of a respectful and helpful professional demeanor with participants, school officials, school staff, and other lab members. In particular, a professional attitude is very important when visiting the public schools, including dress, and interactions with staff.
-Professional and prompt attendance at all scheduled data administrations. If illness or other emergency prevents attendance, 24 hours notice should be given and a replacement found.
-Timely response to all emails and lab correspondence and prompt updates of documents on the lab’s shared drive.
-Recruiting, coordinating, and implementing interview protocols with children and adolescents.
-Completing other research-related tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
-Some college-level coursework in Education, Psychology, Behavioral and Community Health, Family Science, or Sociology.
-(Preferred) Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Behavioral and Community Health, Family Science, or Sociology.
-(Preferred) Experience in a research setting.
-(Preferred) Experience working with children or adolescents, particularly in a research context.
(Strongly Preferred) Reliable form of transportation for data collection at partnering schools.
