Interested in gaining hands-on research experience in the social sciences? Have an interest in working with families and young children from diverse backgrounds? Apply to be a Family Involvement Lab RA!

The Family Involvement Laboratory IS LOOKING FOR ENGLISH AND SPANISH SPEAKING
UNDERGRADUATE INTERNS for the 2019-2020 school year. Students will serve as research assistants for the Family Involvement Lab on one of their two active projects: Baby Books 2 and the Everyday Learning Project.

Baby Books 2 is an intervention for low income mothers, fathers, & young children. The goal of the study is to understand the reading practices of these mothers’ & fathers. The Everyday Learning Project is a study looking at how toddlers learn math and spatial skills by interacting with mothers and fathers at home.

Students MUST be willing to commit to a two-semester internship and be available for a weekly lab meeting (Tuesdays 2-3pm for the fall semester).

Research assistants will participate in data collection; recruit parents; schedule visits; code and transcribe videos; & enter data. Effective communication skills and a passion for working with families with young children is required. This is a great opportunity for students who are interested in pursuing graduate work in the social sciences. Depending on interest & skill-level, there will be opportunities to write honors theses and participate in papers for publication.

Interested students should send their unofficial transcript and resume to Kelsey McKee at kmgarcia@umd.edu. For additional information on our lab, see our website at http://www.education.umd.edu/HDQM/labs/filab/
