Education Coordinator position with Potomac Pathways!

Education Coordinator
Day Treatment DBT Program
Cabin John, MD

Description:
Potomac Pathways is seeking an Education Coordinator for their Day Treatment Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Program (partial hospitalization level of care). Potomac Pathways serves adolescents and young adults, so the clients in this program are either in high school, on mental health leave from college, or are working on college, job, or volunteer applications. Often the clients have a backlog of school work and/or life tasks, and anxiety interferes with completion of these tasks. The education coordinator role involves helping clients with executive functioning/ planning, follow-through, and academic support/tutoring. This person does not have to have any prior training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, but a willingness to learn and use DBT strategies will certainly help. Additionally, this role includes communicating with schools and parents to get a better understanding of each school's expectations for the student's returns and planning for extreme academic situations. This position will begin as a part-time hourly position of 20-30 hours per week with the possibility to make it a full-time position.

Hours are moderately flexible; must be available 10am-12:30pm Monday through Friday; hours could be 9am-1pm/2pm or 10am-2pm/3pm

Responsibilities:
-Meet with new client on first or second day
-Mindfulness of learning/academic needs assessment
-Get an ROI to talk to school/relevant people
-Email/call counselor about school’s expectations for return/assignments/planning for extreme situations
-Assignment/task tracker
-Planning for how to use school time (if not currently enrolled in school)
-Email parents to let them know your role and availability for communication
-Monitor school 10:30am-12pm M-F
-Pull clients for school planning/assignment help as needed
-Help them apply for jobs
-Help write resumes (goal is for all clients to write a resume at some point during program even if they are not actively trying to find a job)
-Communicate with schools/parents
-Creative solutions for extreme school situations (i.e. transferring, client has been out of school for months, etc.)
