Research Assistant Position

Description:
The Laboratory of Military Stress Studies, conducts a variety of quantitative and qualitative research  projects all related to military mental health and stressors for military service members and their families. Volunteers will be assigned to a variety of research projects depending on the specific research needs at the times. Volunteers will be exposed to program evaluation research, qualitative research on barriers to mental health treatment within the military, and additional military-focused research. A position of this type can serve as professional experience in the fields of military mental health and psychology - and will strengthen a candidate’s application to graduate programs in psychology or related fields.

Responsibilities:
-Transcribe audio files of focus groups exploring the factors which contributed to delays in seeking mental health treatment among service members.
-Conduct literature reviews, format references using specific style guidelines, and write literature summaries.
-Attend Research Directorate meetings and brief out task/project progress.
-Contribute to research/training products (e.g., fact sheets, presentations, survey summaries).
-Data entry using MS Excel.
-Survey construction and data retrieval using online Surveymonkey platform .
-Basic data summary and analysis (experience with SPSS software is a plus).
-Opportunities may vary depending on current research projects available at the time, such that additional opportunities may be available or not all of these responsibilities may be required at the time. Opportunities also exist for recommendation letters depending on overall performance.
-Minimum commitment: 8 hours a week for one semester
-The position is unpaid, but course credit may be set up in collaboration with the volunteer’s academic institution.
