Center for Civil Rights Intern - Small Business Focus Spring 2018 - Washington, DC

Description:
This position is for an intern that is dynamic, motivated and is interested in civil rights issues and testing, both locally and across the country. The intern will support the Center for Civil Rights in various capacities, which may include research and writing. Alignmnet of personal mission with that of the National Community Reinvestment Coalition's mission to create opportunities for people to build wealth by working with community leaders, policymakers and financial institutions to champion fairness in banking, housing and business development, is a key to the success of this position. Our interns do substantive work and get exposed to a range of issues, including fair housing and fair lending, grassroots organizing, advocacy, and housing. NCRC will collaborate with university or other educational internship programs where academic credit can be obtained. NCRC will accommodate academic scheduling needs.

Specific Requirements:
 (Depending on hours per week available, length of service, organizational priorities and candidate talents)
-Learn and perform test coordination compliance skills
-Policy research on civil rights issues and their impact across the country
-Perform other program functions as needed, including administrative functions

Qualifications:
-Prefer junior or senior in college, graduate student or law student
-Interest in civil rights, small businesses, banking, real estate, mortgage, credit, money management, and other equitable, financial resiliency factors

Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes:
-A team player, organized, able to work in a fast pace environment
-Detailed oriented o High initiative and proactive leadership
-Strong writing, oral, research and relationship building skills
-A willingness to work with diverse socioeconomic groups
-Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and databases
