Description:
Following a period of initial training, the holder of this position will be responsible for independently performing routine tests in a behavioral neuroendocrine research laboratory, contributing to the general maintenance of the laboratory equipment, ordering and replacement of supplies as well as the experimental animals and animal room husbandry.
Responsibilities:
He/she will be expected to follow established procedures or protocols and perform laboratory tests and/or experiments which may include: immunohistochemistry, light and fluorescent microscopy, quantitative PCR, hormone assays, basic molecular biology, or other specialized histology and biological science techniques. Other duties will include the operation of basic laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, pH meters, and analytical balances. Will operate lab computers for data entry and maintain accurate data records. He/she will also maintain and make minor adjustments to equipment, (e.g. calibrating and integrating it into experimental protocols) as well as prepare solutions, reagents, and stains following standard laboratory formulas and procedures. Other duties include monitoring inventory levels and ordering materials and supplies in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in biology, neuroscience, biopsychology or related field required. Some research experience as an undergraduate and or related post undergraduate work experience preferred.
