Description:
Research Assistant needed to support the Brain Assessment Research Laboratory (BARL) activities at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital (FBCH) in Fort Belvoir, VA. The Research Assistant will be responsible for conducting, in collaboration with other staff members, a major clinical research project. The incumbent will serve as liaison to the investigators and other staff in executing the clinical research project and in ensuring the scientific integrity of the research program. The incumbent will assist the Principal Investigator in executing the EEG/ERP component of a clinical research project as part of the CENC Consortium by managing data collection, processing, and analysis, and ensuring the scientific integrity of the data.
Responsibilities:
-Schedule study visits for research participants for the EEG/ERP component of the study.
-Conduct electrophysiological evaluations of research participants.
-Ensure quality of data, including making judgments during testing regarding the quality of electrophysiological and behavioral data, and solving problems "on the spot" that arise in the course of the experimental session.
-Conduct data processing and quantification, data entry, uploading of data to electronic databases, and data analysis for research projects, ensuring quality control of all datasets.
-Ensure that the pace of recruiting, screening, and testing of participants meets the goals specified in the timelines associated with the research protocol.
-Oversee and supervise all aspects of running the laboratory and day-to-day activities, procurement of supplies and inventory control, and supervising junior staff and interns.
-Responsible for the maintenance and calibration of all laboratory equipment.
-Follow established methods for storage and retrieval of data, ensuring that all data are de-identified and secure.
-Report on a regular basis to the Principal Investigator regarding study progress.
-Serve as liaison to Investigators and staff at Fort Belvoir as well as collaborators at other institutions (universities, military medical centers, and Veterans Administration hospitals) to ensure that processing of electrophysiological data is complete and quantified according to study guidelines, and uploaded to a shared electronic database.
Qualifications:
-Excellent academic record, prior research experience, and superb problem-solving skills.
-Previous experience assisting on psychophysiological research projects, EEG/ERP recording, Excel, PowerPoint, and statistical packages is highly desirable.
-Demonstrated ability to work and provide leadership in a team-oriented environment is essential, as are excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
-Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or other relevant field.
-1 to 4 years of relevant experience. Experience acquired during college will be reviewed for relevance and may count toward experience.
