Description:
A full-time research assistant position is available in the laboratory of Cognition and Emotion directed by Dr. Luiz Pessoa in the department of Psychology at University of Maryland, College Park. The laboratory uses behavioral and functional MRI (fMRI) techniques to investigate interactions between cognition and emotion/motivation. Duties will include assisting with all aspects of behavioral and fMRI studies including: literature search, designing and setting-up of experiments, data collection, analyzing behavioral and fMRI data, manuscript preparation, operation of the MR scanner, supervising undergraduates in the lab, and coordinating other regular lab activities. This would be an excellent position for someone interested in gaining research experience to hone their skills prior to attending graduate school. This is a 1-year position that is renewable for an additional 1-2 years, contingent on performance and funding.

Responsibilities:
-Assisting with all aspects of behavioral and fMRI studies including:
-Literature searches
-Designing and setting-up of experiments
-Data collection
-Analyzing behavioral and fMRI data
-Manuscript preparation
-Operation of the MR scanner
-Supervising undergraduates in the lab
-Coordinating other regular lab activities

Qualifications:
- BA/BS in Psychology, Neuroscience, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
- Quantitative skills and programming experience in MATLAB, Python, R, etc.
- Some experience with LINUX operating system and shell scripting is desirable
- Ability to solve technical problems independently
- Strong organization skills
- Some availability during weekend and/or after-hours for occasional fMRI data collection
- Prior research experience with fMRI data collection and analysis is not required but would be a strength
