Early Childhood Interaction Lab 

Description:
The Early Childhood Interaction Lab is located within the Department of Human Development and Quantitative Methodology at the University of Maryland. The director of the lab is Dr. Geetha Ramani. Research in the Early Childhood Interaction Lab focuses on understanding how young children's social interactions with peers and adults influences cognitive development. The lab specifically studies how play and informal learning activities promote children’s thinking in mathematics and problem solving. Some of the specific areas that are studied include: 1) how games can promote young children’s math abilities; 2) parental communication to their children about numbers and problem-solving strategies; and 3) how play with peers can influence children’s
problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities:
-Data collection in local schools and in the lab
-Participant and school recruitment
-Preparation and management of IRB protocols
-Data entry
-Data storage and backup
-Transcribing interactions between adults and children
-Prepare materials for visits
-Behavioral coding of children playing

Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s degree in psychology, human development, public health, education, or related field
-Previous research experience preferred
-Prior experience working with children is a plus
-Access to a car for traveling to schools for data collection.
