Clinical Case Manager Position
Torture Abolition & Survivors Support Coalition (TASSC) International

Description:
TASSC is a coalition of torture survivors, representing countries and ethnic groups throughout all parts of the world. The mission of TASSC is to end the practice of torture wherever it occurs and to empower survivors, their families and communities wherever they are.

Responsibilities:
  • With all TASSC staff members, interns and volunteers, the clinical case manager welcomes survivors to TASSC. This welcome is an essential part of the TASSC mission.
  • Conducts initial intake process with all new TASSC survivors, and conducts an assessment to determine survivors’ strengths, needs, resources and support systems. 
  • Conducts the development of a survivors-centered case management plans based on information gathered from assessments. The case management plan identifies appropriate referrals to meet survivors’ social, medical, psychological, and legal needs. 
  • Develops and facilitates group cultural orientation and education programs for survivors.
  • Maintains communication with survivors who have received assistance from TASSC. Encourages participation in TASSC’s Communities of Healing, Truth Speakers, and advocacy programs (when appropriate). 
  • Maintains contact with TASSC’s referral network of professional legal, psychological and medical providers. Actively works to support and develop TASSC’s network of service providers. 
  • Convenes and actively participates in case consultation sessions with the TASSC Clinical Psychologist, Social Services Program Coordinator and the Legal teams.
  • Performs other indirect service activities that may include: data gathering, monthly reporting, proposal writing, developing outreach materials, and other work as assigned by the Executive Director.
  • Assist with monthly communities of healing and other events that includes the participation of survivors.
  • Actively works to improve and enhance social service delivery at TASSC.
Requirements:
  • BSW degree in social work or related field from accredited university. 
  • Experience providing case management in a human services environment that supports a holistic, systemic approach to service delivery.
  • Multicultural sensitivity and ability to provide culturally responsive services to a diverse immigrant population, including ability to work with interpreters.
  • Ability to assess and appropriately handle mental health emergencies, including referring to supervisor or other senior staff as appropriate.
  • Ability to develop client relationships and facilitate effective assessment and referral and empowers the client to help themselves when appropriate. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Fluency in a second language a plus.

  • Personal integrity in handling ethically complex and confidential situations
  • Self-motivated, confident and comfortable working in stressful situations
  • Trauma-informed and sensitive listening and communication skills 
  • A commitment to learning about the effects of torture on survivors, families, and communities.
  • Utmost level of confidentiality and sensitivity in working with survivors of torture.
