Research Internships with Total Child Health, Inc.!

2014-2015 Research Positions
Total Child Health, Inc.
Baltimore, MD

Description:
Total Child Health is a for-profit company dedicated to helping primary care
pediatricians identify, assess, and treat developmental, behavioral, and socio-emotional
difficulties in children. This goal is accomplished through the use of an interactive, online
program called the Child Health and Development Interactive System (CHADIS). Total
Child Health is funded by the National Institutes of Mental Health (NIMH), through
Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grants.

Total Child Health is seeking students for the position described below. Such positions
may be paid, or arranged through an independent study program. Independent study is
contingent on approval from a faculty supervisor.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity (ADHD) Study
The ADHD study is an NIMH-funded research project with the goal of improving the
evaluation and management of ADHD in primary care. The internship will involve
developing, testing, and validating online parent questionnaires designed to assess ADHD
and common comorbidities (e.g., anxiety, aggression). In order to validate parent
questionnaires, the intern will conduct structured diagnostic interviews with both parents
and children. Interns will also assist with participant recruitment, as well as with
facilitating communication between parents and clinicians. Finally, interns will assist
with organizing grant materials, coding and entering data, and validating questionnaires.
Previous research experience is required. Experience conducting psychiatric diagnostic
interviews (e.g., the DISC or DIPA), experience working with parents and children, and
fluency in Spanish are all desired, but not required. Interns will be required to travel to
both pediatric offices, as well as to participants’ homes in order to conduct interviews. A
minimum of 10 hours per week is requested.
