Undergraduate Research Assistant Position

Description:
The Center for Addictions, Personality, and Emotion Research (CAPER) within the UMD Psychology Department is seeking an undergraduate research assistant for a study examining the differences in decision making between cigarette smokers and non-smokers. The Lab is interested in studying what is involved in this human tendency to change preferences to the immediate, but smaller reward instead of waiting for the bigger, better option. The Lab relates this process to substance abuse, specifically smoking cigarettes, where the immediate choice may be the gratification of smoking, but the latter option is the health benefits of choosing not to smoke. While investigating what is involved with this decision making process, the research will also involve applying a strategy that utilizes SMS text messaging to attempt to help people stay committed to the future bigger, better reward.
