Description:
The child life specialists of Children’s National Medical are currently seeking volunteers to help support patients and families. We are looking for special category volunteers to work in three sectors of our hospital: inpatient, outpatient, and emergency department.

We are seeking outgoing, hardworking, resourceful and independent personalities who are looking for meaningful volunteer experience and are dedicated to making a difference in the community.

This volunteer opportunity would be beneficial for all students seeking experience with children and families. It would also be ideal for those interested in hospital settings; such as Child Life, nursing, early childhood education, social work and those interested in public health.

Roles and Responsibilities
Inpatient
· Volunteers will be providing support to patients and families both at bedside and in our playrooms and may be placed on a variety of units.

Outpatient
· Volunteers would be providing support in the waiting rooms of our surgery center and radiology areas. Outpatient will be one on one or group settings

Emergency Department
· Volunteers would be providing activities for patients and families while in our waiting room and provide support for other emergency department initiatives focusing on patient satisfaction.

Volunteer Schedule and Shifts
· Volunteers will be working with children and families in the hospital environment with supervision under Certified Child Life Specialists

o One on one or group settings

· Volunteers must dedicate themselves to a minimum of one 3 hour shift per week for a minimum of 72 hours.

o Outpatient areas from 7:30 am-4:30 pm Monday through Friday.

o Inpatient shifts from 9:30 am-5 pm Monday through Friday.

o Emergency Department shifts are 7 days a week from 3pm-9pm.

· This program runs year round and can be suited to meet the needs of both the volunteer and the hospital. The application process can take one to two months to complete.
