Healing Oak Wellness Center, LLC in Rockville, MD is offering 2 internships for advanced undergraduate psychology students, preferably seniors and preferably students engaging the internship for credit.
Requirement is 10+ hours per week focused on core tasks and 1-2 hours biweekly to meet with staff psychologists.
The core project for one intern will involve a literature search related to the topic of psychologically based approaches to weight management, with a special eye toward evidence-based strategies.
The second topic for literature search (for another intern) is the phenomenon of "parental alienation" (situations in which a child is rejecting a parent with whom s/he has a history of a positive relationship or with whom a positive relationship seems possible.)
Based upon the literature search on weight management Healing Oak Wellness Center, LLC will be developing a group based program for weight management in an adult, outpatient population. The intern will be asked to join several discussion meetings about how such a program might be best constructed (based upon guidance from the literature).
Literature regarding "parent alienation" will support a presentation at the annual meeting of the International Family Therapy Association.
Interns will be consulted regarding the learning's from the literature search and about the construction of this presentation.
