Explore the many mechanisms for achieving social impact through social innovation. This is team-based, highly interactive and dynamic course that provides an opportunity for students to generate solutions to a wide range of problems facing many communities today. This course deepens the students understanding of entrepreneurship and innovation practices by guiding them through the creation and implementation process as applied to a project idea of their choice. These projects serve as the laboratory to implement topics such as design systems thinking, developing and communicating a strategy and goals, project management and implementation skills, teamwork and talent management, fundraising and revenue generation, marketing and partner development, leadership skills and project sustainability. Social Psychology Lab Research Assistant position!

Research Assistant Position 
Social Psychology Lab

The Social Psychology Lab is conducting research into various social psychology phenomena. Various projects are conducted at the Social Psychology laboratory, with our main emphasis currently into conducting a group study project in collaboration with the Open Science Framework (OSF). Undergraduate research assistants at our laboratory will be trained in conducting group studies, and learn more about replication research and its importance for the integrity of psychological research. This position is high paced and requires strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities:
-Data collection with groups of participants
-Data entry and review using Excel/Google Docs
-Volunteer at least 3-10 hours Monday-Friday

Qualifications:
-3.0 GPA
-Must be attending the University of Maryland, College Park and be at least Freshman status
-Strong organizational skills
-Attention to detail
-Basic Excel skills
-Able to commit to the Spring semester of 2015

Health Services Research Internships at Georgetown University!


The Cancer Prevention and Control Program at the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center of Georgetown University have openings for unpaid research interns to work on the Measuring Your Health (MY-Health) study. The project measures the symptoms and function of cancer patients. Responsibilities include: entering Medical Record data, and conducting literature searches.

This is an excellent opportunity for undergraduates interested in attending nursing/medical school or health science graduate studies. Applicants enrolled in a psychology, pre-med, or public health-related program are preferred.

Description:
Project Overview: Parenting Intervention This study is a randomized controlled trial testing the effectiveness of an attachment-based intervention called Circle of Security. The intervention is a 10-week parenting program for mothers of preschool children attending Head Start, which teaches the basics of attachment theory, as well as strategies for recognizing and responding to children's needs. The intervention also encourages parents to share their thoughts and feelings about parenting and their own childhood experiences in a therapeutic setting as a way to reflect on how those experiences relate to their current parenting practices. Data collection is ongoing, and will be continued until Spring 2015. Research Assistants would assist with a variety of tasks, depending on availability and interests. Some students may have the opportunity to accompany graduate research assistants to the Lab's playroom in Baltimore in order to assist with running participants, if interested.

Responsibilities:
-6 to 9 hours per week
-data entry and management
-data collection with mothers and children
-coding videotaped interactions

Qualifications: 
-3.0 minimum GPA
-Someone with a car is preferred

The Maryland Summer Scholars Program (MSS) provides an exciting opportunity for undergraduate students to spend the summer working closely with faculty mentors on ambitious research or artistic projects. Maryland Summer Scholars research may take place in College Park or anywhere in the US or abroad as required by the nature of the project. For the summer of 2015, the program will provide awards of $3,000 to approximately 30 outstanding, competitively selected applicants. [Please note: if your proposed research requires travel outside of the College Park area, you may apply for a supplementary travel award of up to $1,000.]

Students who carry out Maryland Summer Scholars projects gain a competitive edge when applying for graduate study, fellowships, employment and other competitive opportunities. Many Summer Scholars turn their research into an independent study or honors thesis during their junior or senior year.

Who can apply: You are eligible to apply if you will have completed at least two full semesters (and 30 credits) by the end of Spring semester 2015, if you have a GPA of at least 3.4 at the time of application, and if you will be enrolled at the University of Maryland, College Park, in Fall 2015. All academic majors are eligible.

Application Deadline: The deadline to apply for summer 2015 awards will be midnight on Sunday, February 8, 2015. It is important that candidates begin developing their proposals as soon as possible.
