RAs needed for Child & Family Development Lab this summer!

The Maryland Child & Family Development Laboratory is recruiting motivated and responsible undergraduate students to serve as research assistants during the upcoming summer. Strong preference will be given to students who are willing to commit to two semesters in the lab (e.g., summer and fall semesters). Students can volunteer or earn course credit for working in the lab.

Current research projects:
parent-adolescent relationships and adolescent risk behaviors; parent physiological reactions to infant distress; and mother/toddler joint attention to emotional stimuli.

RA responsibilities:
lab visit data collection with families, data entry, transcribing, observational data coding, and other various research tasks.

The Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) College Intern program provides a unique opportunity for college students majoring in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a related field of study from across the country, to participate in a Federal Law Enforcement training environment. 

Each year, three intern sessions lasting twelve (12) weeks, are conducted at the FLETC, exposing selected interns to world-class training, broadening their horizons and helping to develop a foundation for a career in federal law enforcement. Interns, after being selected to participate in the highly selective program, are assigned to a mentor from one of the FLETC’s training divisions or partner organizations.

The FLETC College Intern Program stresses flexibility and creativity by encouraging interns to experience everything FLETC has to offer to further their education and career goals, while making professional contacts. 

Responsibilities:
  1. Completing worthwhile work to advance the mission of FLETC.

Qualifications:

The Neuroscience and Cognitive Sciences Program (NACS) at the University of Maryland College Park is seeking a full-time post baccalaureate faculty research assistant for the Maryland Neuroimaging Center (MNC). The Maryland Neuroimaging Center (MNC) is the home for neuroimaging research at the University of Maryland. Housed in a spacious new facility in the Gudelsky Building, adjacent to the main College Park campus, the center has been designed to foster collaboration among neuroscientists, psychologists, cognitive scientists, engineers, and physicists. The newly hired person will be trained by current MNC staff on use and maintenance of the scanner. This is a full-time, contractual and benefits eligible position. Responsibilities:
  • Assist the MR Physicist as needed in the ongoing use and maintenance of the MRI machine. 
  • Perform research MRI scanning protocols, archive and network-transfer research data.

  • Work with MR Physicist to develop QA/QC procedures.

  • Knowledge of MRI scanners/equipment is desirable, preferably the Siemens 3T trio system. 
  • Experience with software/hardware used in human research, including psychophysiology, EEG, MEG is a strong asset. 
  • Applicant must demonstrate technical inclination, basic troubleshooting skills, and willingness to learn, and possess a positive, team-oriented attitude.

Description:
The Human-Computer Interaction Lab (HCIL) is looking for students to join their master's program on campus next fall! A background in Psychology is ideal for the program. Graduating seniors or alumni with an interest in how people and technology work together are encouraged to apply.

The program is interdisciplinary, bringing in students with backgrounds in math and computer science, the physical sciences, social sciences, and humanities. It is a two-year master of science program, and by the end you will learn a wide range of skills:

The Child Development Lab is seeking highly motivated students, upper-level students to work in the lab this summer. Under the direction of Dr. Nathan Fox, investigate the development of the Mirror Neuron System in the first year of life.

Responsibilities:
  • Collect video and EEG data from both infants and adults while producing simple motor acts, and while observing these actions performed by others. 
  • Help with detail-oriented coding of behavioral data. 
  • Assist with the running of infant and adult studies, data entry, and inspection of the EEG.

The NYU Infant Cognition and Communication Lab, directed by Dr. Athena Vouloumanos at New York University, seeks a full-time research coordinator beginning June 2013. This NIH-funded project examines infants’ early voice and face processing to help identify young infants who have an increased risk for later social impairments typical of Autism Spectrum Disorder. A two-year commitment is required. 

Responsibilities:
  1. Work with local organizations and researchers to recruit infant participants
  2. Conduct experiments with infants and young children in a laboratory setting
  3. Train and coordinate volunteers and research assistants
  4. Be a liaison to our second testing site in Calgary, and arrange weekly meetings with researchers

General Description:
Child Trends has an opening for a research assistant to work as part of an experienced research team conducting qualitative research projects on reproductive health (e.g., adolescent and young adult sexual activity; contraceptive behaviors and decision-making; pregnancy; childbearing intentions; health delivery, etc.) and family formation (e.g., union formation and stability; relationship dynamics, etc.) in collaboration with senior staff members. Research studies in this area place special emphasis on racial/ethnic minorities, in particular Latinos, and low-income families.

Responsibilities and Duties:
• Conducts literature reviews and assists in synthesizing research findings.
• Conducts structured and semi-structured interviews (in person and over the phone) for projects requiring primary data collection.
• Handles logistics for qualitative data collection projects such as recruitment, screening, and scheduling.
• Assists in the development of survey instruments, interview and focus group protocols, and IRB packets.
• Enters, cleans, codes, and analyzes qualitative and quantitative data.
• Processes secondary data using SAS, STATA, or other statistical packages.
• Produces presentations for conferences and helps format journal articles, briefs, and reports.
• Assists with clerical tasks, information requests, and photocopying, when necessary.
• Manages meeting logistics, takes detailed meeting notes, organizes project files, and tracks important project deadlines.
